Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the enrollment contract last?

Teen contracts last for 6 months. For students who start with us in the classroom, their contract begins on the first day of class.  For teens starting off with the in-car practices, their contract starts the day they are enrolled in Schedule 2 Drive (our scheduling software).

How old does my teen need to be to start the class?

Texas requires that teens be at least 15 years old to receive a permit. However, students who are 14 years old still have the opportunity to join us in our classes. It is HIGHLY recommended that if a 14 year old student enrolls into a class, that their 15th birthday be no more than 30 days from the fist day of class.

For our In-car students, because you will need to have a learner permit prior to enrolling, the student will have to be at least 15 years old.

What if my teen needs to miss a class?

Teens are allowed to miss up to 5 class days or 10 classroom hours. These classes can be made up by attending the next time the lesson is held.

For example, if a student misses day 5, 10 and 13, they only need to come in on day 5, 10 & 13 of another class.

How does my teen schedule their drive times?

A+ Academy has partnered with Schedule 2 Drive to provide 24-hour access to our driving appointment calendar.  All appointments, rescheduling and cancelations will be made through your teen's Schedule 2 Drive account.  Teens can sign up for a Schedule 2 Drive account after they have received a learners permit from the DPS.

My teen has just graduated or is unable to get a VOE. What should I do?

The VOE can be substituted with a high school diploma. During the summer, DPS will accept the final report card as a substitute.
