I Need a Road Test - Yes, I Have a Permit! No Permit? Then Call (833) SLO-DOWN

How it works

Step 1: Scheduling

A Texas DPS-Issued Teen Learner's Permit or an Adult B-Restricted Driver's License, with a photo, is required to take the road test

  • Create your student account.
  • Click the Red Register button on our website.
  • Once your account is active, access the schedule, complete your payment, and secure your appointment.

To see available appointments, navigate to the "Student Center." New appointments are added frequently.

  • Court-Ordered AND Medically-related road testers MUST test at a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office.

Ensure you check for open slots and understand all document requirements, including your permit, before making a payment. Payments made without verifying availability or document prerequisites are non-refundable.

Step 2: Testing

Bring printed hard copies of all required documents and a vehicle you are comfortable driving to your road test appointment.

Required Documents vary, based on the driver's education program completed, as listed on this page.

Hard Copies of ALL documents are required for your road test appointment, otherwise you will incur a rescheduling fee.  Requesting us to print digital copies may incur a fee.  Please bring hard copies.

Step 3: After Passing Your Road Test

Your required documents and test results will be sealed in an envelope for you to deliver to any DPS office. Opening the envelope will void your documents, and extra fees may apply. Submit your envelope to DPS by appointment or walk-in. DPS will issue another paper copy of your license and send the plastic by mail.

  • Schedule your DPS appointment at public.txdpsscheduler.com/
  • Select Service "Change, Replace, Renew DL"
  • You can schedule at any Texas DPS location
