Drivers Ed Rules & Regulations

Getting Your License

 

Requirements for 16 or 17 years olds with a learner license:

  • Held Texas learner license for at least 180 days. The road test must be taken on or after the date listed on the back of learner permit.
  • Have completed classroom & behind-the-wheel portions of a Teen Driver Education Course. 

     Documents Required on the Day of your Test:

  • A hard copy of your green teen completion certificate (DE-964), if completed at another driving school or through Parent Taught driver education.  We will provide the DE-964 to students who completed our teen program.
  • Printed Impact Texas Teen Driver (ITTD) program within the past 90 days
  • Completed 30-hour log with signatures & license numbers of the student & licensed driver
  • Provide a hard copy of student's last School Report Card, with attendance. The Verification of Enrollment (VOE) requirement is temporarily waived, due to school closures.  

 

Requirements for 18 to 24 years old, with B-Restricted Driver License:

  • Hold a Texas driver license with a 'B Restriction' (for a licensed driver in the front seat) 
  • Have completed the Adult Driver Education (ADE) Course

     Documents Required on the Day of your Test:

  • A hard copy of your completion certificate for the Adult Driver Education Course.  Individuals 18 or older and completed Teen Drivers Education Course, will bring in their Teen Course Completion Certificate
  • Printed Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD) education program, within the past 90 days.  

 

Requirements for 25 years or older, with B-Restricted Driver License:

  • Hold a Texas driver license with a 'B Restriction' (for a licensed driver in the front seat)
  • Have taken the Knowledge Test at DPS or completed the Adult Driver Education (ADE) Course

     Documents Required on the Day of your Test:

  • Printed Impact Texas Young Driver (ITYD) education program within the past 90 days.

Texas Driver Handbook

The handbook is an excellent resource to prepare teens and adults for the written permit test.  Teens will use the review questions to prepare for their permit test.

Driving Practice

30-Hour Log

Practice log for teens to complete with their parents/guardians. Must include 10 night time driving hours.

Road Test

Impact Texas Young Drivers

Free 1-hour video reviewing the consequences and dangers of drunk and distracted driving. Requirement for road test.  Please PRINT completion cerficate and bring to you the Road Test.

Impact Texas Teen Drivers

Free 2-hour program that goes over the consequences of drunk and distracted driving. Requirement for the Road Test.

Vehicle Requirements for Road Test

  • current insurance and registration
  • mechanically operating
  • working horn
  • all headlights, signals and break lights must be operational in front and back of the vehicle

Note: Please have enough gas in the vehicle to allow for a 20 minute drive. Running out of gas during a test will dedict points and is subject to an automatic fail.
